UPDATE: SUNDAY 28th JUNE
"Nextdoor Snape" circulars have been delivered by post this weekend in Priory Road and Farnham Road, for the second time purporting to be from "Paul Richards" — but, our Parish Councillor of that name again makes it clear, they were not by or from him, and certainly without his knowledge or permission.
We know that Nextdoor is widely and successfully used in the village, but as always our advice is to exercise the utmost caution in what personal information you release.
It would be interesting, too, to know if anyone within the village considers themself Nextdoor Snape's local administrator or guardian for this apparently (and probably) benign, but nonetheless US-based, service. Their agenda is not necessarily our agenda.
URGENT UPDATE: TUESDAY 14th APRIL AT 17:15
Post on "Nextdoor Snape" by Miranda Barclay: "A friend of mine has just received a letter — supposedly from me — asking them to join "Nextdoor". As she knew me, she logged on and tried to join — and the site asked her for $9 or so. So she has just rung me and realised that the letter wasn't from me. I wonder if someone is using my name and that of Nextdoor to hack into computers. Please be aware."

Leaflets have been circulating around the village encouraging us to join Nextdoor. Before you do so, we suggest you read the article at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38920906, which points out that Nextdoor is based in the US, who have a very relaxed (perhaps naïve) attitude to personal privacy, compared to us Limeys. You are, of course, welcome to make your own judgment as to what you reveal about yourself, and to whom.
